Biography
Daniel Albertson is a percussionist, educator, clinician, and arts administrator from Wichita, Kansas, whose work is rooted in the belief that being a musician means being both a performer and a teacher.
Albertson is an Assistant Professor of Music at Kansas Wesleyan University and an Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Barton Community College. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance at the University of Kansas. He previously earned a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Delaware and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Washburn University.
As a performer, Albertson has worked across a wide range of musical settings, including contemporary percussion, chamber music, orchestral and wind ensemble performance, musical theatre, and solo performance. His work has brought him into collaboration with artists and ensembles including Andy Akiho, Sandbox Percussion, Sō Percussion, Third Coast Percussion, Michael Burritt, Quey Percussion Duo, and the United States West Point Band. He has performed throughout the United States and remains active in the Midwest with ensembles including the Wichita Wind Symphony,
Teaching is an equally important part of Albertson's career. At Kansas Wesleyan, he teaches percussion, percussion ensemble, methods, pedagogy, literature, music history, and music appreciation. His teaching also extends to Kansas middle and high schools, where he regularly works with percussion sections, honor ensembles, and summer camps, and teaches individual students through his private percussion studio. His recent clinical and presentation work has addressed topics including percussion pedagogy, percussion repair, and teaching percussion to musicians outside the traditional percussion major.
Beyond the classroom and concert stage, Albertson is deeply involved in building opportunities for musicians and students. He serves as President of the Kansas Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and Festival Coordinator for the Sunflower Music Festival. Through these roles, he works to connect performers, educators, students, and communities through music and performance.
Albertson's performance and teaching accomplishments include first- and second-place finishes at the PASIC Concert Chamber Percussion Ensemble Competition, recognition in the Kansas PAS Solo Competition and Naftzger Young Artists Competition, selection for the University of Kansas Graduate Student Honors Concert, and a 2024 Kansas NextGen Under30 award in Adult and Higher Education.
